      GENERAL NUTRITION/HEALTHY ACTIVITY        

 Fit and Fall Proof

• This is a program; designed to help older adults improve their health and reduce their risk of falling. Functional fitness is the primary theme for the program. This will help older adults maintain an independent, freely functioning lifestyle.          

 Meal Time in Less Time   Fit and Fall Proof

• This class teaches individuals how to plan meals, shop to save time and money, and prepare healthy meals using time-saving procedures. It can be taught in one, two, or three sessions.     

             The Healthy Diabetes Plate  Meal Time in Less TIme

• Participants learn about various aspects of nutritional management of diabetes, and learn The Idaho Plate Method for Meal Planning.

       FOOD SAFTEY/PRESERVATION

           Food Preservation Update

• Topics include the following: methods of canning, freezing, and drying, proper canning practices, choosing and caring for food preservation equipment, causes and prevention of seal failures, and special food preservation issues, such as salsa, pickled products, pectin, preserves, and jerky.

     MISCELLANEOUS

           Hassle-Free Holidays  

• This program provides individuals with skills to plan for the holidays to decrease the hassle and increase the happiness. Topics include making a holiday planner, eating healthfully and keeping finances under control.

         EFNEP

           Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program   

• This program is for limited income families and youth in Bannock County. Six nutrition advisers teach classes in homes or in small community groups at participant’s convenience. Classes are on the Dietary Guidelines, Save Money Shopping, Food Safety, Cooking, Feeding Your Children, and Money Management. Fast, low cost, and nutritious recipes are given with each class. Participants in the adult program that take a minimum of six core lessons graduate from the program. Youth classes are for 4-H age youth and classes include free food and nutrition 4-H projects.

            Food Stamp Nutrition Education   

• This program is for Food Stamp eligible people in Caribou, Bear Lake, Bingham, Power, Oneida and Franklin Counties. Also, classes for youth that attend schools with more than 50% of the student body on free and reduced lunch are available. Five nutrition advisors teach classes in homes or in small community groups at the participant’s convenience. Classes and activities are the same as EFNEP listed above.

     GERM CITY

           Hand Washing Program

• This program is for teaching and motivating the importance and proper technique of hand washing. Participants apply Glo-germ lotion to their hands, this lotion is invisible under regular light, but glows when hands are put directly under a black light. This allows them to see the “pretend germs” on their hands. Then the students wash their hands and look again under the black light to see how they did washing off the Glo-germ lotion.
