WHAT IS A PROJECT?

A 4-H project is structured educational activities that develop life skills in youth.

Project material are age appropriate, supported by national education standards and hands on (experiential) learning.

Each member chooses a project that fits his/her interest.  Projects vary in difficulty according to the age and experience.  Projects provide an abundance of useful, real-life experiences.  Most projects have a nominal cost.

Record Books accompany all projects.

What Is the Real Purpose of 4-H Projects?

The purpose of 4-H projects is to teach young people how to accept responsibility for their projects and any supplies or equipment used to complete their projects.  During the project year, 4-H members will also learn about the subject matter of their chosen project.  However, the more important purpose is to provide an opportunity for personal growth and development of the young person.  So, the larger purpose of 4-H projects is to provide opportunities for young people to develop character.  The character traits identified and some practices that may build character follow.
