The University of Idaho
Extension System is a partnership between
the University of Idaho, the United States
Department of Agriculture, and Benewah
County. The mission of the
Cooperative Extension System is to help
people improve the social, economic, and
environmental qualities of their lives
through research-based education and
education and leadership development focused
on issues and needs.
Major
program areas include: community
development, agriculture & natural
resources, 4-H youth development, extension
nutrition program, and the Parents As
Teachers program. The Master Gardener
program presently has 25 active members with
regular office hours. There are 13 clubs,
nearly 36 leaders and nearly 200 youth
enrolled in the traditional 4-H club
program. The most popular animal projects
are horse, swine, beef, and lamb. The
fastest growing project areas include Cloverbuds, shooting sports and sport
fishing. School enrichment programs include
the “Talking With TJ” Teamwork & Conflict
Resolution series targeting second graders.
Science and agricultural education programs
are also being developed with local
teachers.
The Benewah County
Extension Office is located in the basement
of the County Courthouse in St. Maries.
The Courthouse is located at 701 West College
Ave.
The University of Idaho Cooperative
Extension System offers educational
