CHECK OUT THE NEW AND
IMPROVED
GARDENING INFORMATION
CENTER
The Master Gardener Gardening
Information Center will be open for business on April 23, 2009. Master Gardeners are in the
office Tuesday mornings from 9 am to noon and Thursday afternoons
from 1 pm to 4 pm. If you have a home pest
problem or plant problem please contact the Master Gardener's.
The Master Gardeners can best serve you when you are having
problems with plants or weeds if you bring in a specimen. If
you have an insect problem please bring in a sample but first put
it in alcohol to kill it. We prefer dead preserved
creatures. You can contact the Benewah
County Master Gardeners by emailing
benewahmg@uidaho.edu or calling 208-245-2422 extension 23.
The function of the Plant Clinic
and the Master Gardener Program is to help homeowners with an acre
or less, identify and resolve their landscape problems. Master
Gardeners receive extensive training in landscape management.
Their training includes classes in Botany, Horticulture, Soil
Science, Entomology, Pesticide Management, Lawn Care, Plant
Identification, Plant Pathology and many other related topics.
The classes have expanded to include 'Managing your Backyard
Forest' to better serve homeowners with forestlands between 5-10
acres. Continual training and volunteer hours are required each
year to re-certify as a Master Gardener. Master Gardeners are
available to answer questions at the Benewah County Fair. Master
Gardeners work with other agencies within the county to help
educate the public in regard to water quality issues, reduction
and correct use of chemicals in the landscape, and noxious weed
invasion and control.
