University of Idaho
Extension offers Preserve Food @ Home to teach individuals how
to safely preserve a variety of food products. Participants
learn how to produce high quality preserved foods and the
science behind food preservation and food safety.
Individuals with
little or no previous food preservation experience are welcome.
Anyone with an interest in food preservation and food safety can
enroll in Preserve Food @ Home.
Students Progress
through lessons at their own pace or at a time convenient to
them using one of two methods of instructions.
1. ONLINE
OPTION
Online classroom instruction using University of Idaho WebCT
software monitored and facilitated by UI Extension Educators.
Each lesson
includes online text that can be downloaded and printed, an
online bulletin board to facilitate student discussion, a
real-time chat to interact with classmates and a quiz to access
student knowledge.

-Economics of Food Preservation
At the conclusion
of the coursework a final exam is given.

CORRESPONDENCE OPTION
Preserve Food @ Home is also available as a correspondence
course for those who do not have internet access. Lesson will be
mailed to students.
COST
A $35.00 for non-academic credit students
UI academic credit
is also available at the current per-credit cost. Contact
