Pest Sample Submission
Master Gardeners will need a sample in order to provide an accurate diagnosis.  The following guidelines will help assure that we receive an adequate sample to work with.

Plant/Weed Identification
  • For Woody trees and shrubs, bring 1-2 feet of a branch.
  • For non-woody plants, a whole plant is preferable.
  • Sample Should Include:
  •     Flowers or Fruit (Most Important)
  •     Leaves
  •     Stems
  • Wrap plants in DRY paper towels and put in plastic bag.
Plant Problem Diagnosis (Disease, Injury)
  • Bring in several plants or branches with varying degrees of severity.
  • Include at least one healthy plant or branch is available.
  • If a branch is partially affected, bring in the section where it changes form healthy to unhealthy.
  • Wrap plants in DRY paper towels and put in plastic bag.
Insects
  • Collect 10-20 specimens.
  • Place them in an escape-proof container.
  • If they have been feeding on a plant, bring in a plant sample too.  If you don't know what kind of plant it is, see plant identification instructions also.
