University of Idaho Extension
Southern District

Overview

Southern District encompasses the 18 counties of southwestern and south-central Idaho. County Extension Educators deliver creative outreach programs that provide knowledge and leadership to meet the lifelong educational needs of our citizens.  Programs are delivered in crop production, horticulture, livestock, farm business management, small acreage, range management, natural resources, community development, family financial management, food safety and preservation, nutrition, diet and health, 4-H youth development, leadership development, and volunteer development. Federal grants fund pesticide safety education programs, as well as nutrition and resource management for low income families.

Southern District Extension educators work to address and implement the goals, objectives, and priorities of the USDA-CSREES, the University of Idaho, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and the 18 counties in the District.  Southern District Extension programs, guided by overall Extension advisory groups, utilize modern educational technology, are visible, and serve as the communication link between Idaho citizens and the functions of research and teaching in the University.  Extension Educators are assisted by county and University of Idaho funded paraprofessionals and trained volunteers to enhance program delivery.

In keeping with the land-grant mission, University of Idaho Extension, Southern District provides lifelong education and serves the needs of both adults and youth in the district.  Programs help meet the life-long educational needs of the citizens of southwest and south-central Idaho, build an appreciation for diversity and respect for others, support local businesses and communities, and address the economic, environmental, and social challenges facing our citizens.
