University of Idaho Cooperative Extension - District III

Extension Educators located in 11 central and southern Idaho counties across District III provide non-formal educational programs that address critical issues, which are identified through a "grass-roots" advisory system.  Needs are addressed in a multidisciplinary and timely manner by utilizing research-based information from the University of Idaho and the nation.

County Extension Educators deliver creative outreach programs that provide knowledge and leadership to meet the lifelong educational needs of our citizens.  Holding to a tradition of excellence, District III Extension Educators are personally involved in service to their communities.  Extension is responsible statewide for providing leadership to help people put research to work.  Programs are delivered in crop production, horticulture, livestock, farm business management, community development, family and consumer sciences, natural resources, youth development, leadership development, and volunteer development.  District III Extension professionals provide leadership and contribute subject-matter expertise to area businesses and communities.  Extension educators work with Extension specialists and research faculty from across the University to provide subject matter support, training, and continuity to Idaho Extension’s educational programs.  They also work cooperatively and in partnership with other private, public, state, and federal agencies.

District III Extension faculty work to address and implement the goals, objectives, and priorities of the USDA-CSREES, the University of Idaho, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and the 11 counties in the District.  District III Extension programs, guided by overall extension advisory councils, utilize modern educational technology, are visible, and serve as the communication link between Idaho citizens and the functions of research and teaching in the University.  Extension Educators are assisted by county and University of Idaho funded paraprofessionals and trained volunteers to enhance program delivery.  County offices provide the “front door” to the University of Idaho.

Clientele needs vary county by county, therefore requiring different skills of each Extension Educator.  Full-time educators in each of the 11 counties allow clientele access at the local level.  In keeping with the land-grant mission, the Cooperative Extension System in District III provides lifelong education and serves the needs of both adults and youth in the district. Programs will help meet the life-long educational needs of the citizens of central and southern Idaho, build an appreciation for diversity and respect for others, support local businesses and communities, and address the economic, environmental, and social challenges facing our citizens.
