Exploring Citizenship Washington Focus

CWF 2003 Nez Perce County Delegates
History of CWF A group of kids from Nez Perce county have been going to Washington D.C. every three years for the past 36 years.  For those three years, the groups plan the trips, raise money, and learn more about our government and nation's capital.  In the summer, usually around the end of June, we will fly to the east coast and visit places that are important to our nation's history and government.  We will stay at the 4-H center in Washington D.C. for three days, and talk with other 4-Hers from other places in the U.S. Some of the places we are hoping to visit are the White House, the Capitol, the Supreme Court, the Pentagon, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the John  F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Arlington Cemetery, the Tombs of the Unknowns, the Women in Armed Services Memorial, the Library of Congress, the Vietnam Memorial, the Holocaust Museum, Mt. Vernon, Monticello, the Smithsonian and various other places.

Meet the Delegates!

The CWF Delegates are planning to learn more about our Government while on their trip to Washington D.C. in the year 2003.  The Delegates first meeting was in March and in that meeting they were first introduced to CWF and the other Delegates.  There are a total of 16 Delegates going to Washington. The Delegates community pride project was planting flowers for the year of 2001.  All CWF Delegates plan to learn more about their Government and the many sites that they will see, and they all hope to meet many new friends with the other CWF Delegates from around the country.

Fundraisers for CWF

Everyone helps when we do the fundraisers.  The CWF members are working hard to raise enough money for this trip.

We are making enchiladas twice a year. Each of us sell at least 50 pans of enchiladas. The enchiladas are $9.00 a pan.

We also collected pine boughs in November 2001, and made Christmas wreaths.  We sold these for $15.00.  We plan to do this next year also.  We are also planning to sell pizza with the help of Papa Murphy's Take'n'Bake pizza. They will be earning 25% of the money made and will be delivering all pizzas sold.

Enchilada sales--We will be making Enchiladas on the 12th of October 2002.  They are $9 per pan.  The Enchiladas are made with beans, meat, tortilla shells, cheese, olives, and sauce. Get your order in early, they are good and they sell fast.  We will also be making Wreaths in December                                 Darcy

What we plan to do.

The CWF Delegates first came up with the idea of a web-page in their April 9, 2001 meeting.  All Delegates felt that it was important to put out the good word about the program for future Delegates.  This web-page is designed to let all 4-Hers know about the CWF trip program and see different views from past Delegates.  The group plans to post all fundraisers, community pride projects, and other activities, keeping the 4-H viewers an up-to-date view of what we are doing in the CWF program. Hopefully, groups from years to come will continue the website and add more helpful information for those that are interested.

What we're doing now!

We met with the Nez Perce County Board of Commissioners on July 10, 2001.  We were given a tour of the Nez Perce County Courthouse and Lewiston City Hall that same afternoon.  This tour was designed to help us learn a little bit about how local government works.

We are busy with fundraisers and meetings. We meet every first Monday of every month, and discuss the trip and the places we want to go. Although the trip will only be two weeks, it requires a lot of planning and discussing.

2003 CWF Delegates speak out!

"In joining the CWF program I plan to make this trip a good learning experience about our government and meeting other people as well.  When I first heard about this program I was excited to join because I was currently in our schools Close-Up Washington trip group and planned to go more than once hoping to see more both times."

--Harrison J. McFarland, President

"I really enjoy going to meetings and doing fundraisers, because you get to know a lot of people in your club.  I hope to learn a lot about the government, and meet a lot of people at Washington D.C."

--Lucas C. McFarland

"On the CWF trip I hope to further my knowledge on how the government works.  I also want to meet a lot of people.  I want to see all of the fascinating places there are in Washington."

--Nathan M. King

"This trip will be the biggest learning experience I ever had. The trip will also be my first time flying and going outside the states that border Idaho."

--Derek J. McFarland

"This program is very good if you are interested in the government of our country and its well being. Even if you are not interested in the government, you will learn a lot and meet new people, see new things, and have a good experience to remember and have with you for the rest of your life."

--Abra A. Stolte
