Exploring Citizenship Washington Focus

CWF 2009 Nez Perce County Delegates

History of CWF

A group of 4-Hers from Nez Perce County have been going to Washington, D.C., every three years for the past 42 years.  During the three years between trips, the groups plan the trips, raise money, and learn more about our government and the nation's capital.

In the summer of the trip, usually in June, we fly to the east coast and visit places that are important to our nation's history and government.  We stay at the 4-H Center in Washington, D.C., for one week and talk with other 4-Hers from different places in the U.S.  Some of the places we are hoping to visit are the White House, the Capitol, the Supreme Court, the Pentagon, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the John  F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Arlington Cemetery, the Tombs of the Unknowns, the Women in Armed Services Memorial, the Library of Congress, the Vietnam Memorial, the Holocaust Museum, Mt. Vernon, Monticello, the Smithsonian and various other places.

Meet the Delegates!

The CWF Delegates are planning to learn more about our Government during the three-year project and while on their trip to Washington, D.C., in the year 2009.   There are a total of 14 delegates going to Washington, D.C., in 2009. All CWF delegates plan to learn more about their Government and the many sites that they will see, and they all hope to meet many new friends with the other CWF delegates from around the country.

Fundraisers for CWF

Everyone helps when we do the fundraisers.  The CWF members are working hard to raise enough money for this trip.

We are making enchiladas twice a year, once in October and once in January. Each of us sell at least 50 pans of enchiladas. The enchiladas are $15.00 a pan The enchiladas are made with beans, meat, tortilla shells, cheese, olives, and sauce. Get your order in early as they are good and they sell fast.

We also collect pine boughs in November and make Christmas wreaths.  We sell these for $15.00 each.

The CWF members are also providing concessions at the Nez Perce County 4-H Horse Show this year.

If you would like to purchase enchiladas or wreaths, contact the Extension Office at 208-799-3096 to put you in contact with a CWF member.

What we're doing now!

We are busy with meetings and fundraisers. We meet every month to learn about all levels of government and how it works.  We also plan to meet our local elected officials.
