Person: Reed Findlay
Program Thrust: Agriculture – Crop Production and Horticulture
Major Programs: Cereals; Master Gardeners; Spanish language programming for farm workers
Successes and Current Activities: Mr. Findlay has teamed with Wayne Jones over the past four years to initiate Spanish language programming for farm workers in eastern Idaho. They initially developed this for the Potato Conference, an annual international program held in Pocatello, ID. However, Spanish language programming became so popular that it was expanded to the Sugarbeet Conference, to summer field educational programs throughout eastern Idaho, and most recently to Master Gardener programs. Mr. Findlay also responded to a new pest of dryland barley, the Haanchen mealybug, by establishing applied research projects in conjunction with Steve Harrison and Dr. Juan Alvarez. This pest has not appeared in the U.S. in over 50 years and their rapid response is essential to understanding the biology of the pest and developing cultural or chemical control measures.

Person: Audrey Liddil
Program Thrust: Family and Consumer Sciences – Food and Nutrition
Major Programs: Expanded Food and Nutrition Extension Program (EFNEP) and Food Stamp Nutrition Education (FSNE)
Successes and Current Activities: Ms. Liddil has been the State Coordinator for the EFNEP and has been responsible for managing the Bannock county EFNEP and the District IV FSNE programs. She was awarded $141,702 for Bannock County EFNEP and $116,731 by FSNE to support the programs, including a portion of her salary. She supervises 17 nutrition advisors in these two programs, who deliver nutrition education to limited income families with children. In 2005, these programs presented ongoing nutrition education lessons to over 476 families, and 5,689 youth were also reached by collaborating with community organizations to teach nutrition education and physical activity. There was an 89% improvement in the families that graduated from the programs in at least one of the nutritional practices that are tracked by the EFNEP Reporting System.

Person: April Ward
Program Thrust: 4-H/Youth Development
Major Programs: 4-H; Silver Linings; Operation Military Kids
Successes and Current Activities: Ms. Ward works as one of four regional faculty focused primarily on 4-H/Youth Development. She resides in Bannock County and works closely with the 6th District Court and Idaho State University Counselors in Training on a program called “Silver Linings” that provides coping tools to youth experiencing divorce. Operation Military Kids is also a program of focus. Over 200 National Guard men and women have been deployed from Southeastern Idaho leaving children and spouses behind. She works closely with the Family Readiness Group Leader from Pocatello to provide 4-H activities for these youth. Ms. Ward is active in 4-H Camp activities and has been elected as President of the Idaho Association of 4-H Extension Agents. She is very active in promoting and instructing 4-H Shooting Sports programs and cooperates well with educators in adjoining counties to promote the program and train instructors.
