Person: Janice Stimpson
Program Thrust: 4-H/Youth Development; Family and Consumer Science – Health and Nutrition
Major Programs: “Welcome to the Real World”, 4-H Day Camps
Successes and Current Activities: Ms. Stimpson was one of the original faculty to be involved with youth financial education programming in District IV bringing “Welcome to the Real World” curriculum into the region. She has fostered a team effort of her FCS colleagues to deliver this program throughout the region. In 2005, that program was delivered to over 1,200 youth throughout eastern Idaho. “Welcome to the Real World” attempts to help youth understand the impact of career choice and purchasing decisions on their ability to live within a budget and plan savings for their future. Due to changes in family lifestyles, Ms. Stimpson initiated the 6-hour one-day 4-H project concept in Clark and Fremont counties. Enrollment and youth leadership have increased dramatically. Involvement of Hispanic youth has also increased. Ms. Stimpson works as one of four regional faculty focused primarily on 4-H/Youth Development.
