Ms. Williams, as sole extension educator in Lemhi County, successfully provides a wealth of educational opportunities to clientele by partnering with other agencies and educators. Her current programming focus includes current topics in livestock production, noxious weed education, and youth livestock education days. The Cattlemen’s Winter School is held in cooperation with the Lemhi Cattle and Horse Growers Association. Topics are selected through an advisory group of local producers. In 2005 she teamed with another Educator and veterinarian to pilot test some of the latest technology that may be used in the National Animal Identification system. She has held livestock day camps to educate youth about the various facets of raising livestock, producing high quality, safe food, and preparing for a livestock show. Ms. Williams has completed a three-year study on grazing as a control tool for noxious weeds, and several demonstrations on control of leafy spurge and spotted knapweed by goats. This innovative approach has garnered attention in several other states and she has presented the successes at numerous state and national meetings. She and her co-investigators have been awarded $57,000 from four agencies to support noxious weed work. |
