Mr. Harding is the sole extension educator in Madison County. His expertise is in the areas of crops and horticultural production where he serves regionally to support Madison, Fremont, Teton, and Bonneville counties. Mr. Harding is responsible for coordinating regional cereal winter schools and plans the region’s winter forage school in conjunction with other U of I and BYU-Idaho colleagues. In 2001 and 2005, he developed educational programs to help producers understand the ramifications of land disposal of excess potatoes. This effort was an attempt by growers to dispose of excess potatoes in the large 2000 and 2004 crops. This diversion program helped raise the price of potatoes from $1/cwt to over $4/cwt by the summer of 2001 and doubled the price by 2005. He delivers widely used educational programs on potatoes and cereals throughout the above mentioned counties. He has recently added emphasis in Community and Economic Development for Madison County because of the rapid growth in economic activity and related business pressures associated with the recent and ongoing expansions at BYU-Idaho. His cooperation with community, regional, state, and national leaders has been very beneficial to his community. |
