4-H IN IDAHO
PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST
Open to
all 4-H members, parents, leaders and Extension Staff
WANTED:
Photographs of Idaho 4-H to use in 4‑H publications, displays, and
electronic formats. Photos should capture the essence of 4‑H and
showcase 4‑H opportunities.
Contest Guidelines:
¨
Photos should include
Idaho youth or leaders working with Idaho 4‑H projects and
activities. 4-H emblems are not required in photos but may enhance
desirability and use of the photo. If an individual in your photo
is recognizable, photo permission form must be submitted with the
entry or be on file in the County Extension Office.
¨
4-H youth may enter
photos they have taken of any subject to be considered for display
in the Washington, D.C. offices of Idaho’s Congressional Delegation.
¨
Color prints (3˝” x 5”
minimum) or black and white prints (3˝” x 5” minimum) may be
entered.
¨
35 mm film, or larger,
or high quality digital photos must be used for photos to be used in
displays or publications. Digital photos should have been taken at
the camera’s highest possible resolution for best picture quality.
Suggested minimum camera megapixel rating is 4.0. Digital photos
which cannot produce a clear 11 x 14 enlargement will not be
considered.

For 4-H
Publications and Displays:
Project or club activities, Community Service projects, Camp,
County/District Activities (demonstrations, Job Search,
judging/identification contests, Fashion Revue, etc.), County Fairs
and Horse Shows, State/National/International Events (Teen
Conference, Know Your Government Conference, LABO, Citizenship
Washington Focus, 4-H Dairy Conference, National Conference and
Congress, etc.)

For Congressional
Display: Any of the
above subjects, people, landscapes, close-ups, general interest,
etc. (Youth entries only.)
Entries must be submitted in an
envelope and include:
1. a. Print (3˝” x 5” minimum)
and negative, or slide. Negatives should be left in the
paper/plastic sleeve if possible. The negative must not be
scratched. Photographer's name should be printed lightly on the
back of the print or edge of the slide. OR
b. Print (3˝” x 5”
minimum) of digital photo and disk with digital photo in jpg or tiff
format. Photographer's name should be printed lightly on the back
of the print and on the disk.
2. Photographer's name, address,
county, age (if youth), and title of photo or description of
activity should be printed on the outside of the envelope.
Awards:
¨
A maximum of ten (10)
cash awards of $30 each will be given, generally 5 in each division
(youth and adult). Limit: one award per person per year.
¨
Winning entries will
be enlarged and mounted for display. Five of the winning photos
will be displayed for 1 year in the Washington, D.C. offices of
Idaho’s Congressional Delegation. Others may be displayed in other
businesses or public buildings. Winners will receive the display
photos at the conclusion of the display period.
¨
All other entrants
will receive a certificate of participation and a gift certificate
for on-line photo processing.
Winning entries become the property
of the State 4-H Office and will not be returned. If a photo taken
with APS film is a winner, the cartridge will be returned after
enlargements are made.
Judging:
Photos will be selected on the basis
of:

Technical
Quality--clarity, focus, exposure, color/contrast.
¨
Usability in future
4-H publications and displays.
¨
Story Telling
Ability--how well the photo tells what is happening without words
describing it.
