Western larch is a unique conifer. It is deciduous, resistant to many pests, and exceptionally adaptable, with wood that is strong, hard, and durable. Its strength and consistency thus make it an ideal wood producer for intensive forest management regimes of the future. This station bulletin covers the tree’s ecology, special attributes and problems, silvicultural treatments, and harvest systems, and offers growing tips. The larch is an Inland Northwest conifer whose growth and development on fewer acres will pay big dividends, amply earning the spotlight.
