Herbicide resistance is a problem that has quickly spread throughout wheat-growing regions of the inland Pacific Northwest. This timely PNW publication offers best management practices (BMPs) for growers and farm managers to retard its development in their fields: implementing weed-management strategies prior to seeding, incorporating crop competitiveness (like increased seeding rates and narrow row spacing), and herbicide rotation. Supplemental material helps keep them on track, including a handy table that compiles both the management options covered and their effectiveness, along with a poster-style version summary of all the BMPs discussed for convenient display.
