Thinning a dense stand of trees can increase a forest’s health and scenic beauty while improving your property’s value. Along with explaining how seedlings grow into mature trees, how stands of trees develop, and other growth processes, this illustrated publication recommends six objectives to develop a good thinning plan, including the importance of timing, thinning intensity, species and tree selection, and logging methods. Illustrations of cross sections of properly and improperly thinned trees and the relationship of crown class to tree height and age provide helpful guidance.
